We are seeking a highly skilled Senior WordPress Engineer to architect, build, and optimize advanced WordPress-based solutions, working closely with designers, engineers, and product stakeholders to deliver exceptional digital experiences. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of professional WordPress engineering experience, deep expertise in PHP, WordPress core, and plugin development, and strong knowledge of Gutenberg, ACF, and WP REST API. The Senior WordPress Engineer will lead the development of custom WordPress themes, plugins, and complex integrations, and guide technical decisions to improve development workflows and deliver high-performance, scalable, and secure solutions.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior WordPress Engineer to architect, build, and optimize advanced WordPress-based solutions across our digital ecosystem. You will work closely with designers, engineers, and product stakeholders to translate complex requirements into performant, scalable, and elegant WordPress applications. Your expertise will guide technical decisions, improve development workflows, and help deliver exceptional digital experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of custom WordPress themes, plugins, and complex integrations
  • Architect scalable WordPress solutions that prioritize performance, security, and maintainability
  • Collaborate with UI/UX teams to translate designs into pixel-perfect, responsive interfaces
  • Develop advanced custom fields, Gutenberg blocks, REST API integrations, and backend logic
  • Optimize site performance including caching, database queries, and asset delivery
  • Implement secure coding practices, validation, and role/permission logic
  • Review code, enforce development standards, and mentor junior team members
  • Manage deployments, staging workflows, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across server, application, and front-end layers
  • Stay up to date with WordPress ecosystem updates, PHP best practices, and modern tooling

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional WordPress engineering experience
  • Deep expertise in PHP, WordPress core, theme architecture, and plugin development
  • Strong knowledge of Gutenberg, ACF, custom post types, taxonomies, and WP REST API
  • Proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, CSS3, and responsive front-end frameworks
  • Solid understanding of MySQL optimization and database structure
  • Experience with version control (Git), package managers, and build tools
  • Familiarity with DevOps workflows, hosting environments, and server optimization
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and architectural skills
  • Ability to lead projects and guide development best practices

Nice to Have

  • Experience with WooCommerce or enterprise multisite setups
  • Familiarity with headless WordPress (Next.js, React, GraphQL, WPGraphQL)
  • Knowledge of Docker, CI/CD pipelines, caching layers, and CDN infrastructure
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and external services
  • Understanding of accessibility (WCAG) and SEO engineering
